More and more days pass by only to alienate the lone king of Nepal. He was destined to crash to ground by his supposedly shrewd actions. He acted to prevent the collapse of monarchy but helped only to accelerate the failure process. Had Gyanendra not taken a move against the political parties, the political parties would still have been fighting against the maoists. Moreover, political parties were always in favor of ceremonial king. However, a blunder by Gyanendra prooved too costly for the future of monarchy.
Now, everything related to monarchy is at stake. Removing the image of king in money bills, changing the national anthem which praises the king, removing Gyanendra's power in the army and so forth to altogether sending off monarchy in the history of Nepal have become the agendas in present day Nepali politics. These are interesting questions which we need to debate on and which do carry substantial weight in Nepalese atmosphere.
First, why should we have king's image in money bills? Who is he that we have his image all the time with us? Are we praising him for sending us off this far down this stinky road? Or is it a sign of "the most wanted autocrat in the history of Nepal?" Seriously, I feel sick when I have to carry Nepali money with me with the king's image. Do you feel the same?
However, removing the image of the king is not the solution in itself. Whose image do we want out there? Are we not supposed to be the land of peace "Gautam Buddha?" Or why not have Mt. Everest as the image rather than a person? After all it has contributed so much for our welfare and publicity. We need not follow the herd, we can have something different. What about the image of some martyrs in different bills. I think we still consider Sukraraj, Dhrama Bhakta, Gangalal etc as real martyrs of our nation. What are your feelings about these suggestions?
Second, why should we still have the same national anthem which gives respect to these freaks who spoiled our nation? We need to change it to something else which praises the martyrs of the nation, which gives credit to those who have lost their lives in the building of the nation, not to the lazy autocrat. What suggestions do you people have? I have read somewhere that "rato ra chandra surya" should be our next national anthem with slight modifications. Is it a good option or do we have other alternatives? But, seriously we need to change the national anthem not only for the sake of removing king but also for its inability to adjust to the changed environment. The national anthem still rallies for expansion of population"praja failios" when we have been overpopulated. These things are symbolic and yet do not make sense. So, they warrant changes.
Anyway, what is your opinion on this?
